CUPPING THERAPY

CUPPING TREATMENT
Cupping therapy is a bodywork technique was made famous by Michael Phelps in the 2016 Olympics when he competed with a back full of large circular purple marks caused from a cupping treatment. Even though Michael Phelps thrust cupping into the world spotlight, it has been around for thousands of years used in traditional Chinese medicine.
Cupping is a favorite among our patients! Cupping is done by putting small suction cups on a desired area of the skin, creating a vacuum effect where the tissue gets sucked into the cup. The cups are left on for a few minutes up to 15 minutes, depending on each person's specific needs.
Cupping works by decompressing the tissue, allowing for better blood flow, decreased or eliminated pain, improved range of motion and relaxation of tight muscles. It also decreases inflammation and promotes relaxation.
Cupping is relaxing for most people, feeling like a deep stretch in the muscles where the cups are located. Some people experience a dull "pinching" feeling that is initially felt, followed by some dull pressure that progressively gets less and less.
-decreased pain
-improved blood flow
-calmer nervous system
-reduced inflammation
-improved range of motion
-increased relaxation
-loosened restrictions and adhesions in the treated area
-optimized athletic performance
-stretched muscles and connective tissue
